Chrissi B! making room for summer choices

Summertime is in the air, time to go through a few closets and sort out the needs and the wants of the season. Out!!!! go last year's sandals, (what was I thinking!). Gone are last years bathing suits and shorts. New needs all around. You know the drill.

I like going through my closet. I like sorting through the clothes I love but don't wear, from the clothes I love but should of never purchased. I like packaging up a few treasures and dropping them off at the thrift store. I like the process.

If I am to keep something it must meet some criteria. Have I worn it lately? Could I live without it? Do I know someone who would use it more than I would? If I let go of it would I regret it?

If I donate it, I get a cleaner closet and a chance to refresh my wardrobe with new colors and trends. In my life one rule of thumb is ....Whenever you bring something new in, you must donate something out. It is a hard rule to follow but it keeps the clutter down.

Hubby and I share a rather large closet. You could park a double bed in there with little problem. It is a "catch all" for gifts, donations, paperwork and more. It is the hub of our lives. We split the closet right down the middle, each taking one half. I tend to overlap a bit, but he is gracious.

When new items are purchased for dh, he too must donate or toss it's equivalent. That is a hard process for him, as shirts too small or with holes do not qualify as discards. Men! When left to my own, I sort through his side of the closet and carefully place a few new treasures and rid him of the excess. This is a good thing.

When shopping for hubby I always seem to buy a purchase or two that I can occasionally "borrow". Do you do that too? There is this awesome cashmere blend hoody that looked more like me than him, or the white, cotton hoody that offers warmth on a nightly walk. Although the clothing is way tooooooooooooooo large, it offers comfort. It makes me cozy. It hangs on his side of the closet .......

So grab a bag, sort through your wants and needs and send some clothing to your favorite thrift shop. Someone will just love those fashions you wore last summer, and you will love the space in your closet. ...have fun!
