Our night was filled with hoops and hollers! The hoops were courtesy of the NBA Finals and the hollers? Well, those were from the guys in our family room, celebrating a Laker's win! All is good in southern Cali ....At my house the gold and the purple rule the net. Stars of the court.
The Laker's tradition runs deep in my home. It started with my mom and dad, going the games when the Lakers were a Minnesota team. They were a young couple, and the games back then, were a cheap form of entertainment. Times change, teams move, but the Laker loyalty followed my dad and then brother forever. Fast forward to my husband and his brother, both are huge Lakers fans .....The saga continues. Moral of the story, we watch BBall. But then again, all sports are big with us, and you can always find a fan or two, tuned in to a game or two at my house. All are welcome.
We are gamers big time! Ours, is more of a non-traditional house. Our formal dining area houses a regulation, full sized air hockey table, complete with sound and cheering. Our living area shelters a Foosball table, baseball game and popcorn cart, in case the players get hungry as the games progress. Again, not quite the living area of my dreams, but it works.
I blog this because as I grow older, I find my dreams have changed. I find it funny, (not ha-ha funny, oddly funny), that I have embraced games in my home. I have tossed aside the idea of having the traditional environment I thought I NEEDED, for the one THEY needed.
As I've mentioned, dh and I care for our adult brothers. Not able to get out as easily for fun as they once did, we have tried to bring fun to them. In the process ....We have brought more fun to ourselves! We have benefited as greatly as "the guys" have. Probably more so.
Hubby and I have adopted a more casual approach to living. We have learned to enjoy each inch of our home. We have learned to find both shelter from the world, and from the stresses of that world in our home. We have made a big box, in the suburbs a home filled with laughter and fun.
We have "game nights" and "movie nights". All are welcome. We make popcorn, we laugh, we talk and we chat. We break into teams and create funny little challenges for each team. We build self confidence and memories.
I casually overheard someone say one day, (while in my home) "Why all this need for fun?" I smiled, and thought to myself, sadly ...Why not?
Have some fun today! Grab a moment with your friends, fans or family and do something unexpected. You will never regret it! Be a star...enjoy!
